About
The people, and the promise
Divot & Draw exists because gear reviews are written for a swing most of us don’t have, and priced as though we never lose a ball. This is the honest version.
Who’s behind it
Divot & Draw is written by Stephen V., a long-time recreational golfer — not a coach, a club-fitter, or a tour player, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise. Stephen got tired of two things: gear reviews written for a 115-mph tour swing, and buying guides that quote a price without a word about what the thing actually costs to own. Divot & Draw is the site he wanted to read.
Why trust a site that admits it doesn’t test in a lab?
Because we tell you exactly how we reach every conclusion, and you can check it. The big golf publishers robot-test balls at a university and front a PhD. We can’t honestly match that, so we don’t claim to. Instead we compile the published manufacturer specifications and official standards, compute the running costs nobody else publishes, and cite every source. It’s a method, not a credential — and because every input is public, our ranking is reproducible in a way “we tested it” never is.
Our full method is on the how we rank page. The short version: we read the spec sheets, do the math the manufacturers won’t, and cite everything.
What we do differently
- Ranked by handicap band. Beginner, high, mid, senior, slow-swing — the way golfers actually search, and the way the gear actually behaves.
- Real cost-of-ownership. The subscription that outlasts the hardware; the premium balls you drown. We show the arithmetic.
- A “skip this” pick in every roundup. The one we’d pass on, and why — even when it pays us more.
- Live, date-stamped prices.Never a stale or invented number. If we can’t verify a price, the button says “check price” instead.
How we’re paid, plainly
Divot & Draw is funded by the Amazon Associates programme — when you buy through our links we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. No brand pays for placement and no manufacturer sends us gear. The full details are on our affiliate disclosure and editorial policy pages.
