The Best Golf Gifts for Groomsmen

This is not a gift purchase, it is a bulk purchase with a per-head budget and a group of golfers you cannot individually fit. Five picks chosen for exactly that constraint.

For a group of groomsmen who play, the best gift is a FootJoy WeatherSof gloveeach — the world’s best-selling golf glove, a consumable every golfer is overdue to replace, and cheap enough to buy five or six of without the total becoming its own problem. It is the pick for a mixed group of golfers at a sensible per-head budget. The thing that makes this purchase different from every other gift list on this site is the multiplier: you are not choosing one gift, you are choosing one gift times five or six, and that changes which products make sense.

What the multiplier does to the decision

Three things. First, the budget per head collapses— a gift that feels modest at $40 becomes a $240 line item at six, which is why the top of this list is cheaper than the top of our other gift pages. Second, you cannot personalize to each recipient, because you are buying the same thing six times for golfers with six different handicaps and six different sets. Third, sizing becomes a real risk: getting one glove size wrong is a swap, getting four wrong is a logistics problem the week of a wedding.

That is why the list below is weighted toward consumables and no-size tools, with one single bigger item at the bottom for the case everybody actually asks about — a different, better gift for the best man.

The sizing problem, handled

The glove is the best gift here and it is the one that needs information. A golf glove is worn on the hand opposite the one you write with, so a right-handed golfer needs a left-hand glove, and gloves come in sizes. For a wedding party you almost certainly have a group chat; asking for glove size is a two-minute message and far less awkward than asking about anything else. If you would rather not ask, buy the balls: a dozen Srixon Soft Feel each needs nothing from anybody and lands well with every standard of player.

One honest warning on the rangefinder: if the wedding party plays a tournament or a competitive round together, remind them that distance-measuring devices may be used to measure distance only. Slope and wind functions must not be used during a round under the Rules of Golf, and the VPRO500 has a slope mode. Our rangefinder rules page covers it, and what slope actually is explains the feature.

Pros

  • FootJoy describes the FiberSof material as 'the most advanced combination of a consistent fit, soft feel and a secure grip', with a MicroTac treatment added in the high-stress areas — an all-rounder that does nothing badly
  • A breathable PowerNet mesh back keeps a sweaty hand cooler than a full-leather glove in the heat
  • It is the world's best-selling golf glove — FootJoy cites more than 90 million sold — so the sizing is well understood and a replacement is never hard to find
  • More durable than a soft cabretta glove at a fraction of the price, which is why it is the sensible default

Cons

  • The synthetic content that makes it durable also makes it feel a shade less soft than a pure cabretta glove like the Players or the StaSof
  • White marks with use, and in a genuine downpour a dedicated rain glove grips better

Skip this if…

…you want the thinnest, softest premium-leather feel, or you're buying specifically for the rain. The WeatherSof is a durable all-rounder — for pure feedback a cabretta glove is thinner, and for a downpour the RainGrip pair grips better the wetter it gets.

Pros

  • Low compression that a moderate swing can flatten for real distance
  • A slightly firmer, more responsive feel than the very softest value balls — a good middle ground
  • Consistently one of the best price-per-dozen in the category

Cons

  • Ionomer cover, so limited full-spin greenside control
  • Nothing about it is exciting — which is exactly right for a value ball

Skip this if…

…you genuinely spin your wedges and play to a single-digit handicap. You'll feel the missing greenside bite; step up to the Q-Star Tour or a Pro V1.

Pros

  • One cheap tool covers alignment, ball position, swing path and plane — more drills than any single-purpose gadget
  • Instant visual feedback: your feet, the club and the target line are all made obvious
  • Near-indestructible, packs in the bag, and used by nearly every tour player on the range

Cons

  • They're only as good as the drills you know — the sticks don't tell you what to do with them
  • No moving parts means no active feedback; they show you the reference, you supply the discipline

Skip this if…

…there's honestly no bad reason to own a pair — but if you want a tool that actively corrects you rather than one you have to use knowledgeably, a feedback aid like The Hanger or the Divot Board does more of the thinking for you.

Pros

  • A genuine slope-compensating laser for a fraction of a Bushnell’s price
  • 6x magnification and a 1-yard rated accuracy — the specs that decide a yardage are all present
  • Light, simple and cheap enough that losing or knocking it about isn’t a wallet event

Cons

  • No magnetic mount and no lock-confirmation jolt, so you steady it yourself and trust the reading
  • Slope isn’t flipped by a quick external switch the way the premium units are, so getting to a tournament-legal mode is fiddlier

Skip this if…

…you play a lot of competition golf and want to switch slope on and off between shots. Its slope is legal only with the feature disabled, and there’s no convenient toggle — a switch-equipped laser like the Blue Tees or Tour V7 Shift is worth the step up for you.

Pros

  • About as light as a bag with a stand gets — you barely notice it walking a short loop
  • Holds a partial set comfortably, which is all you need for a par-3 or an after-work nine
  • The kind of bag you grab without thinking when you're not playing a full, serious round

Cons

  • Not enough storage or club separation for a full 18 with a complete set and a day's supplies
  • A minimalist bag by design — if you want pockets for everything, this isn't it

Skip this if…

…this is your only bag and you play full 18-hole rounds with a complete set. The Loma is a brilliant second bag for short golf; as a do-everything bag it will leave you short on storage.

The per-head budget, honestly

Work backward from the total, not forward from the gift. Decide the number you are comfortable spending on the whole group, divide by the number of groomsmen, and shop that figure. At the bottom of the range, alignment sticks each is a genuinely good answer and nobody will think less of it. In the middle, a glove each or a dozen balls each. At the top, a glove and a dozen balls is a better gift than one more expensive object, because it reads as two things rather than one compromise.

Should the best man get something different?

If you want to, yes — and a rangefinder is the obvious upgrade, because it is the one piece of golf equipment that is unambiguously useful and that most amateurs have not bought for themselves. The TecTecTec VPRO500 is the budget laser that started the value category: 6x magnification, a 1-yard rated accuracy and a real slope mode, at a price that does not sting if it lives at the bottom of a bag. Our budget rangefinder roundup ranks the alternatives.

What to skip

Engraved anything, unless the engraving is the point of the gift and the object underneath would have been bought anyway. An engraved divot tool is still a divot tool, and everybody already has four.

Clubs.Six golfers, six swing speeds, six sets — there is no single club that fits a group, and a club that does not fit gets sold.

Anything that needs a shoe size. The returns alone will outlast the honeymoon.

How we ranked this

We don't run a testing lab — and we say so

We compiled published manufacturer specifications, official standards and aggregated owner reviews, computed the running costs the big test-labs leave out, and scored each pick against a published rubric. The scores are judgments from documented research — they are not lab measurements we took, because we don't have a lab and we're not going to pretend we do. You can check every number we publish.

Questions

Frequently asked

What is a good golf gift for groomsmen?
A FootJoy WeatherSof glove each is the best balance of cost, usefulness and impression for a mixed group — it is the world's best-selling glove, every golfer needs a fresh one, and it scales to five or six without the total running away. If you would rather not collect glove sizes, a dozen Srixon Soft Feel each needs no information from anybody.
How much should you spend per groomsman on a golf gift?
Work backward: pick the total you are comfortable with, divide by the number of groomsmen, and shop that figure rather than choosing a gift and multiplying. At the low end alignment sticks each is a real gift; in the middle, a glove or a dozen balls; at the top, a glove and balls together reads better than one pricier object.
Can you give a rangefinder as a groomsman gift?
As a single upgraded gift — for the best man, or for a very small wedding party — yes, and the budget slope lasers make it affordable. Buying six is usually out of range. One caution if the group plays competitively: under the Rules of Golf a device may be used to measure distance only, and slope must not be used during a round. See are rangefinders legal.
What golf gift works if not all the groomsmen play well?
Consumables and no-size tools. Golf balls and alignment sticks work identically for a 6 handicap and a 26, which is exactly what you need when you are buying the same thing for a group. Avoid anything that assumes a swing speed, a set makeup or a particular fault — that is where a bulk gift goes wrong.
Are golf balls too boring as a groomsman gift?
No, and the reason is the multiplier. A dozen balls each is a gift every recipient will consume within a season, costs the same per head whoever receives it, and needs no sizing or logistics the week of a wedding. Pair it with alignment sticks if you want the package to feel like two things rather than one.
